Everton announce coach Ebbrell departure for Oldham

Everton have announced coach John Ebbrell has left for Oldham Athletic.

The coach has been an integral member of the club's academy for the last seven years, working alongside the former under-23s manager at Finch Farm to help develop a number of the Blues' young talents. Previous to that, the former player was also manager of the under-18s setup.

A full statement read: "Everton wishes to thank John Ebbrell for his service and dedication to the Club after the former Blues midfielder left his role as Academy Player Senior Development Coach to become assistant manager at Oldham Athletic.

"Ebbrell has been a valued part of Everton Academy since 2015, initially returning to the club as a coach before being named Under-18s manager and later stepping up to support David Unsworth as part of the Under-23s set up.

"In his role as Under-23s assistant, Ebbrell helped the young Blues become the inaugural Premier League 2 champions in 2016/17 and retain the title two seasons later as part of a league and cup double.

"He was appointed Head of Academy Coaching and then Senior Player Development Coach in July, before deciding to reunite with former Toffees teammate Unsworth, who has been named as new manager of National League club Oldham.

"As a player, Ebbrell joined Everton as a schoolboy, playing 253 matches for the Blues between 1986-1997 and winning the FA Cup in 1995.

"Everyone at Everton wishes John all the best in his new role."
