Everton have reportedly met Idrissa Gana Gueye's release clause in his Aston Villa contract.

Sky Sports is of the belief that the Toffees have been monitoring the 26-year-old defensive midfielder this summer and are now ready to pounce.

Dana Gueye arrived at Villa Park from French club Lille last summer and impressed in what was an otherwise dark season for the relegated West Midlands giants.

However, it appears as though he will be given another chance to shine in the Premier League after Ronald Foeman's club met his £7.1million release clause, freeing him up to join the Goodiyion Park outfit.

Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo recently signed Aaron Tshibola from Reading which has cleared a path for Senegal international Gana Gueye to depart.
