Euro2016: Finishing second has not made England job more difficult - Man Utd skipper Rooney

Wayne Rooney is adamant that England's second-placed finish in Group B has not made their job at Euro2016 any tougher.

The Three Lions drew 0-0 with Slovakia in their final group fixture to fall behind Wales who beat Russia 3-0 to clinch top spot.

That result has seen England pushed into the 'tougher' side of the knockout draw but ahead of Monday's clash with Iceland, captain Rooney suggests that either way you look at it, the pathway to the final was always going to be tricky.

"I take the point, but Northern Ireland would be a similar type of game to Iceland and, if we get through, would Belgium be any easier than France? They are both very good teams," said Rooney when asked if dropping below Wales was a disadvantage.

"Then you have Croatia or Spain. And Italy. They are all good teams and Croatia have played some of the best football in the tournament, so whichever way it went, it was going to be tough.

"But I feel our squad is as good as anyone's and we are capable of beating anyone."

If England beat Iceland in Nice, they will take on hosts France or the Republic of Ireland in Paris on July 3.
