Ernesto Valverde: I can handle Barcelona egos

Ernesto Valverde has spoken of his goals at Barcelona after his appointment this week.

The former Athletic Bilbao coach knows that there is a lot of pressure and expectation on his shoulders.

"I know what it means to be a coach at Barcelona and taking this themse I know what it exposes me to. Taking a tour around the club museum I have already seen the pressure on me. The bar is set very high."

Valverde said that he would need to "adopt" the spirit of the team and the side had to be "together in good and bad moments".

"I know the style of Barcelona but I have to adapt myself in this sense. Barcelona has always been characterised by great collective play in the midfield. We want to keep control of the game," he said.

The 53-year-old is not concernd about the potential problems caused by big player egos.

"It's necessary to want to be the best," he said. "I think that I will find a group of young players who want to win and are obliged to be at their best. This ego thing is, I think, more an ideal that the players have."
