Shell-shocked Sven Goran Eriksson delivered a personal apology to Manchester City fans for the rout at Stamford Bridge and promised: "That will never happen again."
Eriksson pledged an immediate improvement in Wednesday night's Carling Cup tie at Bolton and told the Mirror: "We were awful. Maybe some of them started to believe all the nice publicity about us playing good football and getting into Europe.
"But if we carry on defending like that, we will be lucky to be playing in the Premier League next season, never mind the Champions League.
"This result is not the truth about Manchester City, I can promise you that. And I can assure you that it won't happen again."
