Feyenoord made an attempt to beat Manchester United to signing of Christian Eriksen this summer, it has been revealed.
Signed as a free agent from Brentford, Eriksen has impressed for United in the early weeks of the new season.
But De Telegraaf's Marcel van der Kraan has reported the Dane could easily have been playing for Feyenoord this term.
He said on Kick-Off: “A Dutch club that really wanted him was Feyenoord. They also spoke to him for a while. They were very close, but in the end Eriksen didn't think that was the best idea with his (Ajax) background.
"I still don't understand why Ajax didn't bring in Eriksen. That was really up for grabs, they could have brought him in because he wanted to himself. His agent made further attempts by proposing it several times as he was free on a free transfer.
"Ajax did not dare and there will be reasons for this, but I think that someT will scratch their heads three times when they see him play football like this."
