England U21's European Championship hopes have been hit by the withdrawal of Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor.

Taylor has an Achilles problem, while a knee injury also sidelines Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck.

Neither player will be on the 23-player final squad list that will be submitted to UEFA on Monday, and replacements will be named.

Stuart Pearce's England youngsters begin their campaign against Finland on June 15 in Halmstad, and also face group games against Germany and Spain.
