England success at World Cup will hit supporters in the pocket

It will cost an England fan over £6000 to follow Fabio Capello's men all the way to the World Cup final in South Africa this summer. The figure is based on flights, transport within the country, food, drink, tickets and three-star accommodation.

It means the estimated 50,000 supporters who plan to follow England this summer will spend a total of around £319 million.

Grant Bather of Virgin Money, who did the research, said: "Fans would probably say that £6,399 to see John Terry lift the World Cup would be worth paying. But with up to 50,000 England fans flying out the costs will certainly mount up.

"A World Cup win will last for ever but you don't want the debts to last for ever as well."
