Emerton, Grella hoping for Blackburn return

Blackburn Rovers duo Brett Emerton and Vince Grella will be hoping they can get some game time in the English Premier League this weekend. The Rovers will be out for their first league win of the season against West Ham at Ewood Park as Emerton returns from a serious knee injury as Grella hopes to build on the 44 minutes he played in the midweek 3-1 Carling Cup win over Gillingham.

On Sunday, Tim Cahill will attempt to drag Everton off the bottom of the table when they host Wigan Athletic.

The Toffees got through to the group stage of the Europa League midweek, following a 5-1 aggregate win over Czech outfit Sigma Olomouc, and will be hoping to take that form into the domestic scene.

Cahill was not used in Europe so will be chomping at the bit to deliver for the Goodison Park faithful.

At Villa Park, Fulham will be striving to atone for their 2-0 home loss to Chelsea last week.

They too were involved in the Europa League during the week, losing 1-0 to Russian club FK Amkar Prem', but scraping through 3-2 on aggregate.

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was a minute away from keeping a clean sheet against the Russians and will be hoping his defence can hold strong for a full 90 minutes against an Aston Villa outfit who answered the critics in the best possible fashion last week, defeating Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield.

They also managed a 2-1 Europa League win over Rapid Vienna but were eliminated on away goals.

In the Championship on Saturday, Adam Federici and Reading are away to Barnsley at Oakwell Stadium.

The Royals let in three against Sheffield United at Madejksi last week, with the Australian shot-stopper making an uncharacteristic error to hand the Blades a goal as they went down 3-1.

Reading are currently labouring in 21st place without a win, fairing slightly better than this weekend's opponents who are rooted to the bottom of the 24-team table with a solitary point from four outings.

Rhys Williams and potentially Brad Jones are away with Middlesbrough at Bristol City.

Boro have made a good start to their relegation season, sitting 2nd on the table and are yet to experience defeat with Williams showing solid early-season form.

In League One action, Leeds United, with Patrick Kisnorbo and Neil Kilkenny in tow will try to make it five from five against a Colchester United outfit who are sitting 3rd, three points in arrears of the Whites in what promises to be an enthralling contest.

Norwich City have enjoyed some good form in the past three weeks after a season opening debacle in which they lost 7-1 to Colchester when Michael Theoklitos was in goals.

Since then, the former Melbourne Victory man has had little to do as Ben Alwnick has stepped in but a bench appearance may suffice for 'Theo' as they visit Hartlepool at Victoria Park.

And finally, Gareth Edds and Tranmere Rovers host league leaders Charlton Athletic at Prenton Park.
