Five of the fourth round fixtures of the 2016/17 EFL Cup were played on Tuesday night.

Arsenalprogressed to the quarter-finals courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 win over Reading at the Emirates Stadium with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the man for the Gunners with a pair of goals.

Arsene Wenger's side will be joined in the final eight by Jurgen Klopp's Liverpoolwho accounted for fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Anfield.

Daniel Sturridge was back in the goals with a double before Vincent Janssen pulled one back for Spurs from the penalty spot, but it acted as a mere consolation.

Hull City enjoyed quick-fire goals either side of the break from Harry Maguire and Michael Dawson to eventually down Bristol City 2-1 at Ashton Gate after Lee Tomlin's injury-time goal.

Newcastle United stormed into the quarters with a commanding 6-0 triumph over ten man Preston North End as Rafa Benitez's side made it six wins in a row in all competitions, extending their unbeaten run to eight.

And in a nail-biter at Elland Road, Leeds United came out victorious 3-2 on penalties over Norwich City after it finished 2-2 at the end of extra-time.

Alex Pritchard scored first for the Canaries in the 14th minute before Marcus Antonsson replied for the Whites just before the break.

Nelson Oliveira then gave Norwich a 2-1 lead early in extra-time prior to Chris Wood's eighth league cup goal in his past nine outings to send it to a shootout, in which Leeds came out on top.
