Dundee Utd extend McNamara contract

Jackie McNamara has signed a new contract with Dundee United.

The 40-year old, who took the reins at Tannadice Park after leaving Partick Thistle at the end of January 2013, has extended his stay with the Tangerines by a further 12 months until May 2017.

McNamara has guided United to fourth position on the Scottish Premiership table and his efforts for putting together such a talented young squad have been praised by club chairman Stephen Thompson.

"I am delighted to announce Jackie has extended his stay at Dundee United," he told the club's official website.

"The Board is excited by the job that Jackie has been doing and his desire to build strong foundations is in line with how we see the Club progressing."

Former Celtic and Falkirk defender/midfielder McNamara added: "I am enjoying the job more than ever.

"My relationship with the Board of Directors and the Chairman is the strongest I have experienced in football and working with the quality players available to me at Dundee United makes the job enjoyable."
