Dubai targeted for Scottish summer cup

The Scottish Premier League are entertaining the notion of holding a glamour summer cup competition in Dubai according to SunSport.

SPL chief Neil Doncaster are hoping to spice up the top flight by bringing in a new knockout tournament to be held on foreign shores with the competition to be sponsored and also beamed back to the UK for live TV.

It is believed that a tournament such as this would help struggling clubs with cashflow problems and even though St Johnstone chairman Geoff Brown seems to be a fan, he wonders if clubs like Celtic and Rangers would be interested.

"I'm pleased to hear something like that could be on the cards," he said.

"With the money the Old Firm can make going halfway around the world it might be a job making it attractive to them."

The only problem is, the next SPL season is scheduled to start on July 23, making this year's proposal of running the tournament a bit tight.
