Valentin Roberge has left Sunderland to join Stade de Reims on loan.
The 27-year old centre-back, who only joined the Black Cats last summer, will spend the season with the French Ligue 1 club.
Roberge was signed from Portuguese side Maritimo but made just 13 appearances last season and will now make way for Sebastian Coates who has arrived at the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan from Liverpool.
