DONE DEAL: Real Madrid sign Joselu as he says 'I leave Espanyol with thorn in my heart'

Real Madrid have announced the signing of Espanyol striker Joselu.

Joselu has joined Real Madrid on-loan for the 2022/23 season.

It marks a return to Real for the 33 year-old, who came through La Fabrica and played for Castilla.

Joselu leaves Espanyol after their relegation and he posted a lengthy farewell letter today to social media:

“Hello, pericos,

"I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me and my family feel at home from the first day we landed in this wonderful club. Today, as our paths separate for the next season, I remember the enthusiasm with which we arrived in the summer convinced that, after many destinations, Barcelona and Espanyol could be our home. And it has been.

"It has been a very tough season for the entire Paerica family and I feel a thorn in my heart knowing that we have not been able to leave RCD Espanyol where it deserves. I feel it in my soul, and although I know that nothing can appease the pain you feel, I just want to tell you that it is a shared pain in the locker room and at home, in my own family.

"Despite the toughness of this campaign, I will be eternally grateful to Espanyol and to you for having accompanied me to make the dream of a lifetime as a footballer come true: to be international and win the Zarra of LaLiga. I am a simple and sincere person and everything has meant a lot to me in my career. I can assure you that until the last minute of the last game I have been exclusively focused on being able to help the team achieve a goal that we missed due to our own mistakes and also, as everyone verified, due to situations that were beyond our control.

"The mistaken thought that a footballer does not feel a decline as disappointment and the deepest sadness is typical of those who do not understand this sport.

"RCD Espanyol is the force of sentiment and I am convinced that next season this force will push the team to return to where it deserves.

"Thank you very much for everything, pericos. I will always be one of yours.

"Long live Espanyol!"
