MLS new boy Ashley Fletcher has left Watford for New York Red Bulls.

The 26-year-old forward has moved on an initial loan deal to the Red Bulls, which includes an option to buy.

The transfer comes only seven months after Fletcher left Middlesbrough to join Watford on a free transfer, signing a five-year contract.

NYRB head coach Gerhard Struber said of the signing: "It is good to see Ashley join our squad this season.

"His general movement off the ball suggests he has a good level of game understanding, which is shown by recognizing and exploiting space with precise timing. He will hopefully prove to be a good piece in the attacking zone."
