Brighton are closing on a deal for Wigan youngster Jensen Weir.
The Argus says the 18-year-old midfielder has travelled south to tie up his move, according to a well-placed source in the North West.
Although the transfer window does not open until the season has ended, the clubs can reach preliminary agreement before that.
Weir, whose father David is on the Brighton staff as pathway development manager, has not played in the Championship this season and was not part of the Latics' draw at Barnsley on Saturday.
The reported £500,000 initial fee will help see Wigan through current financial problems.
