Mattia Destro was the hero for AS Roma as they edged Fiorentina in extra-time of their Coppa Italia clash last night.

Fiorentina hit the woodwork three times, but Destro scored in extra time to send Roma through to the Coppa Italia semi-final amid a brawl and three red cards.

The Giallorossi scraped through in Florence and will face Inter in the next round. The other semi-final is between Juventus and Lazio.

"Today we were in an emergency situation, but were also decisive," said coach Zdenek Zeman after the 1-0 victory.

"It's normal we suffered, but the lads sacrificed themselves and we were able to win."

Destro missed some sitters, but came sliding in to score the only goal after 107 minutes.

"Destro is an important player and he had other chances. We hope he has broken through and can score more."
