Desailly can understand Chelsea sacking Ancelotti

Marcel Desailly can understand the dismissal of former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea great Desailly, who made 156 appearances for the club between 1998 and 2004, understands the thinking behind the Italian's removal.

"That is the life of a manager," said the former France centre-back. "He did well in the first year and won two trophies, but the owner did not support the fact that this year he won nothing.

"The message to the players was still positive but the management have clearly decided that was not enough.

"I love (bookmakers favourite) Harry Redknapp, but it doesn't matter who they pick. I just want them to decide very quickly.

"That way we can get on with planning and dreaming of victory."

Desailly suspects a dispute over future transfer targets may also have sealed Ancelotti's fate, with the Italian failing to share the views of owner Roman Abramovich.

"Maybe the future was partly decided by the players Chelsea were planning to buy," said the 42-year-old. "Sometimes you have to agree with the vision of the management of Chelsea.

"Carlo was not sharing the vision of what players they were supposed to bring in."
