Savage came within a whisker of earning the Rams a replay against his former club with a 30-yarder deep into injury-time which Joe Hart tipped over with the reflexes likely to earn him an England call.
There was also plenty of cursing from the visiting fans, who hurled chants of 'There's only one greedy bastard' at their former hero.
Savage's response was to rub his fingers together in a Harry Enfield-style 'loadsamoney' gesture.
He added: "I just wish that one had gone in. It was a great save. I'd have been booked after that. No doubt. My top would have been off.
"And then I'd have been sent off for my second yellow. But it would have been worth it.
"I hope Birmingham go on to win the FA Cup now, I really do. Alex McLeish is doing a great job there."
