Derby open talks with Anderson over new contract

Derby will look to hold talks with central defender Russell Anderson in a bid to renew the player's contract, which expires in June. The 31-year-old centre-half joined in January on a deal until the end of the season.

"The priority is to sort Russell out. We said if we got a point we would sit down this week so we will be doing that and seeing if we can get him sorted out for next season and maybe beyond," said boss Nigel Clough.

"Russell says he has enjoyed it here and says he wants to stay. He wants to play and we give him that opportunity. Not many clubs at our level can match what we can offer in terms of 30,000 fans watching at Pride Park, our training facilities and our ambition.

"Against Barnsley, Russell was very steady again and very reliable. He won his headers, made his clearances and does not make many mistakes. He is forging a good solid partnership with Shaun Barker."
