Derby are close to signing goalkeeper Roy Carroll from Rangers and should also tie up a loan deal for Tottenham midfielder Hossam Ghaly soon.
After bringing midfielder Robbie Savage to Pride Park from Blackburn on Wednesday, Rams boss Paul Jewell is keen to make "two or three" more signings before the January transfer window closes.
One of those should be Spurs misfit Ghaly, who Jewell showed around the Rams' training ground on Wednesday morning.
He said of a possible deal: "That's not done yet but we're hoping to get agreement between the two clubs on a loan deal until the end of the season.
"We're just waiting on the work-permit details."
Another target is Northern Ireland international Carroll, who has failed to break into the Gers' first team since leaving West Ham in the summer.
"The chairman spoke to his agent," Jewell confirmed. "I've spoken to (Rangers boss) Walter Smith."
"I've been in contact with Walter for quite a while now.
"Hopefully we can get that underlined, if not today, then tomorrow."
