Defoe targeting Tottenham ton against AC Milan

Jermain Defoe netted his first league goals from open play in about a year for Tottenham yesterday and he now plans to go on with it.

The 28-year old scored two superb goals in the exciting 3-3 draw with Wolves at the Molineux to take his Spurs tally to 99.

On Wednesday night, the North London club host Italian giants AC Milan in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie and Defoe is planning to chalk up the ton of goals and help the side into the next phase of Europe's premier club competition.

"You get one goal and they keep going in," Defoe said. "That's the way it has been throughout my career.

If I get my 100th goal against Milan, I'll sit back and think that there's a reason why. I've always believed things happen for a reason."

Defoe is well aware just how good a squad Harry Redknapp has assembled this season so is not about to get comfortable in his position but knows that goals certainly help his cause.

"We've got such a strong squad but when you're scoring goals, you want to play every game," he added.

"When you're a forward and you're scoring goals, it seems like the easiest thing in the world.

"You're confident and you're buzzing about.

"When you're not scoring, you try so hard and your game changes a bit. Football is about confidence but the most important thing for us is to win on Wednesday."

Spurs take a 1-0 lead into the White Hart Lane thanks to Peter Crouch's goal in the opening leg at the San Siro.
