Jermain Defoe has enjoyed his first week at Sunderland.
Speaking to safc.com Defoe revealed that he is loving life on Wearside, before hailing the role Gus Poyet played in his decision to join the club.
"It's been good and it always helps to know people when you join a new club," said Defoe. "I already knew Wes [Brown] and Adam {Johnson] from England and I also knew John O'Shea, but all have the lads have been great and it's funny because I feel like I've been here years.
"I spoke to Gus on the phone on a few occasions talking about systems and how he wanted to play, and I obviously played with him at Tottenham as well.
"He's a good guy and even before I met him he was someone I always admired as a player - he did so much in his career and he knows so much about the game."
