Newcastle United fullback DeAndre Yedlin has apologised to fans and teammates after defeat to Wolves.
The US international was dismissed after tugging back Diogo Jota in the second half with referee Mike Dean wasting no time in producing the red card.
Rafa Benitez wasn't convinced that it was a red card after the game and feels VAR is now desperately needed in the Premier League.
But Yedlin told the Chronicle: “Obviously I just got caught on the ball a little bit and whether it was or wasn't a red card, he's given it.
“I apologise to the fans and my team-mates.
“I think the effort they put in for the rest of the game was unreal.
“We just fell a little bit short but I take full responsibility for this one and that's all I can say."
Although, he admitted that the decision could have been different had VAR been put in place.
The right-back said: “Of course, but VAR is not here yet."
