Kevin de Bruyne says Manchester City's preseason defeat to Manchester United has set them up for their early season success.

The City squad used the friendly defeat in Texas as a spearhead for a change in mentality.

And speaking after City's victory against Chelsea on Saturday, Kevin de Bruyne revealed that result as a catalyst for their fine form in September.

"We said to ourselves after the first game against United in America that we want to lose as less games as possible," he told BT Sport. "The feeling if you win is better for all the team because everybody is excited.

"It was a very good month, but we have now two games with the national team and we have to maintain this."
