DC United owner Erick Thohir has become a controlling shareholder of Italian giants Inter Milan.
The Indonesian businessman, along with two business partners, has signed an agreement to acquire a 70% stake in the Nerazzurri.
Thohir, who leads International Sports Capital, said in a statement: "Through a greater focus on soccer properties and synergy between them, these dealings will result in a deeper commitment from me to the continued growth of DC United.
"We will return DC United to its place as a top club in America while building a global brand for the most accomplished team in MLS history."
Thohir's DC co-owner Jason Levien added: "I'm happy that Erick has taken the lead in bringing this to fruition.
"Inter Milan is among the most iconic clubs in the world and, as this moves forward, it presents opportunities that can enhance the futures of both United and Inter."
