Davies delighted with latest Villa experience

Curtis Davies was happy with his second outing for Aston Villa in the reserve-team's 2-2 draw with Portsmouth.

Davies erased the memory of last week's disappointing 1-0 Carling Cup defeat to Leicester by marking £6million striker David Nugent virtually out of the game.

Former West Brom captain Davies said: "It was a good run-out and a good test against some quality opposition.

"Even when we saw their team sheet we knew we could get something out of the game because confidence is so high. So we are just disappointed to have conceded so late on.

"I was pleased with how I played and hopefully I'll be fighting for a first team place before too long."
