Dan Preston has signed pro forms with Birmingham City.
The centre-half, aged 18, from Kings Norton has signed a 12-month deal.
Preston made his senior debut last season at Sunderland in the Carling Cup, coming on as a substitute. He was loaned out to Hereford United towards the end of the campaign.
He said: "I'm really happy because this is something I've worked really hard towards.
"Although I've always dreamed of being a footballer I didn't think when I arrived at the club at the age of 11 that seven years later I'd be signing a professional contract."
