Dalglish hails Liverpool super subs for Arsenal win

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish hailed his super subs after victory at Arsenal.

The boss introduced Raul Meireles and Luis Suarez with 20 minutes remaining and both played a crucial part in our first win on Arsenal soil since February 2000.

Suarez was applying the pressure which led to Aaron Ramsey's own goal before Meireles set the Uruguayan up for our second.

Dalglish was delighted, telling reporters: "It's a hell of a good pair of substitutes to bring on.

"We were really pleased with Andy Carroll's work, and Dirk Kuyt's, but when you've got two players of that quality on the bench, it would be wrong not to at least have a go with them.

"I think we deserved a goal. That's why I say the squad is better than last year. This is a great example of how strong the squad is."

Explaining his decision to include Kuyt at the expense of Suarez, Dalglish added: "Last week (v Sunderland) maybe I was being a wee bit romantic with Luis. It was unfair on him, he was coming back and was on such a high and looked sharp in training. I thought I'd give him a game.

"Maybe last week it was the wrong decision from me. He still scored the goal, still played well but he just never had the energy he normally has. Maybe we just brought him back a wee bit too soon.

"We've got to manage Luis's circumstances the same as we have everybody else's. There were another four or five lads there who we had for the first time. Raul Meireles has had a difficult pre-season with injuries so we've got to look after him as well as Luis."
