Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce: We must spend this summer

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has warned the board they must spend this summer.

Allardyce says Palace have to keep progressing, adding that they cannot afford to rest on their laurels after securing safety.

"[Next season is] five years in the Premier League and if you're going to stand still you'll end up getting relegated, so you've got to improve the squad and improve the team, improve the backroom staff, and ask the players to deliver more, especially if they get new contracts," he said.

"If you get new contracts, more money, you've got to deliver more, show your worth. You don't stand still when you get more money, you've actually got to go forward and get better and better.

"Sometimes players get too much money and get worse. We've got to avoid that situation. If a player gets more money, as a manager you demand better, more consistent performances, from the fact he's earned that new contract, now you've got to earn the money by performing better than before."
