Crystal Palace boss Glasner hails his players after victory over Newcastle

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner was delighted with victory over Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Jean-Philippe Mateta struck twice for the 2-0 win.

Glasner said: "All the credit to the players for their performance, their spirit, their togetherness on the pitch. I thought if we played in this style and intensity again, we would have to make 10 changes after 60 minutes! It was a fantastic atmosphere at Selhurst and the fans pushed the players.

"Second half, the game was tighter but we scored fantastic goals."

On three league wins in a row, he said: "When you win you have a lot of self confidence. I saw an excellent first half against Man City, we could have had a 3-0 lead at Bournemouth. We can see the players are listening, they are really hard working and there is a great spirit in the team. We are on a good pathway but it is just the beginning of our journey. I have to say thank you to the players for trusting us, changing things mid season. Thank you for the trust and now we all get the reward.

On Mateta's second goal, Glasner added: "Always nervous when you lead by one. JP is the one who scores, he has a lot of self-confidence and he is working so hard. When you see the first goal, he is the one at the end but we won the ball four. five times before.

"It's team-work in the opposite half, working so hard together. They deserve all the credit today because they are the guys working so hard and coming together on the pitch."
