Crewe boss Davis hopes to keep Chelsea striker Kiwomya

Crewe boss Steve Davis has urged Chelsea not to hold back Alex Kiwomya.

The striker's seven goals in 14 games have helped Davis' side consolidate 12th place in England's fourth tier.

His deal at Gresty Road runs out early in the new year and Davis is determined to keep him.

"It's easy from our perspective because of what Alex has achieved here," he said. “He's playing every week and we have done the things we promised Chelsea we'd do.

“We've got the best out of him using our skills to develop players – other clubs haven't managed it.

“We believe this is the best place for him to be, and (Alex) is certainly on board with it all.

“I think he is comfortable and happy where he is, he's settled with his family in the area and he is enjoying his football.

“My biggest fear now with players is they sometimes put great trust in their agent and in the end they muck their career up.

“I think it should always be down to the player and what he wants. Hopefully Chelsea will respect that and what's right for him at the moment."
