Costa Rica defender Marshall killed in San Jose car crash

Costa Rica international defender Dennis Marshall has been killed in a car crash in San Jose.

The 25-year old, who last week scored in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-final loss to Honduras, died in a car crash along with his girlfriend in the Costa Rican capital.

'The Associated Press, quoting the Red Cross, said Marshall died Thursday when his car collided in a head-on collision with a truck in a mountainous region near the capital of San Jose.'

Costa Rican teammate Heiner Mora on the Costa Rican federation's official website: "It's a tough story and nobody expects it. Less than a week ago we were sharing with Dennis and today is no longer with us.

Whilst head coach Ricardo La Volpe added: "Life has such strong impact, I imagine how painful it was for his family, so from here all we can do is send our deepest condolences to their loved ones."
