The Easter Road outfit are already back in pre-season training as they prepare for their Intertoto Cup campaign.
Paatelainen admits winning a place in the Uefa Cup would be a bonus, but insists a good start to the new season is his top priority.
"Obviously the target is when the SPL starts we are ready and that we are on song," Paatelainen told Sky Sports News. "All these matches are preparation towards that.
"Obviously we want to do well in the Intertoto no doubt, there is a big prize qualifying for the Uefa Cup if we do well in the Intertoto so that would be nice.
"We do not get ahead of ourselves we just concentrate on training and getting the players fit."
