Injured Aberdeen defender Diamond optimistic for season opener

Diamond admits he has struggled through games with the injury in the past but jetted out to Holland for a pre-season tour with the rest of the squad in positive mood.

"It's still early days at the moment," he said.

"We will be over here for 10 days and hopefully the recovery process will help it.

"Hopefully I can get a couple of games in and, if not, just train to a high standard, get my fitness back, and hopefully be ready for the start of the season.

"I've had it since last season and I've managed to play through it but it does catch up with you.

"You're not training to your full potential and everybody wants to train and play to their full potential.

"Going into a game not being 100% is hard. I've done it before and you struggle with your performances.

"It's something myself and the medical staff will need to look at."
