Gary Smith was very critical of the Sporting Kansas City players after his Colorado Rapids lost 2-0 in their opening play-off on the weekend.
The reigning MLS Cup winners dropped their home leg of the Conference semi-final due to Teal Bunbury's second-half double for SKC and Smith was very unhappy with how Peter Vermes' men conducted themselves.
"With the amount of inexperienced guys they have on their side, and the energy they want to throw into it - because they want to win - it looked like a college game," Smith told The Denver Post.
"They've got some very, very talented guys on their team, but there were many, many occasions where the challenges didn't befit a professional game."
There were a few incidences that caught Smith's eye - particularly challenges on Kosuke Kimura and Drew Moor and Kei Kamara's attempted punch on a Rapids player - which upset the Rapids boss.
"Certainly, the tackle on Kosuke was overzealous," Smith added. "The challenge on Drew is ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.
"Kamara's punch was the clear one. The only thing we can hope at this point is that the league reviews it, and they feel as though it should have been noticed and it will be dealt with."
