Cole enjoying new attacking Chelsea

Joe Cole is delighted to see Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho employing wingers in preseason action.

"I think when we play with wingers we are a better side. I think that's plain to see," he said.

"The way it felt last season, I was injured for most of the season and so was Robben so we had to change the system.

"But this year we've got strength in that area and we've got the chance to use wingers so I'm sure we will.

"We want to win games and if the manager thinks that by playing two wingers we're going to win some games then I'm sure we'll do that."

With even more competition for places in Chelsea's crowded midfield after the summer arrivals of Florent Malouda and Steve Sidwell, the 25-year-old is banking on his versatility to give him an edge in the battle for a starting berth.

"This year there's a lot of competition for places and obviously you want to be the one who gets the shirt," he added.

"I enjoy playing wide right and trying to get crosses in to strikers but I enjoy playing in the middle and I like to think I can do both.

"So I've got some strings to my bow and more options to get picked."
