Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback says they showed great determination in victory over Wigan.
The Black Cats ran out 4-2 victors after going a goal down to move back up to 10th in the Barclays Premier League.
"We knew it was going to be a battle and that's exactly how it turned out," Colback, who started his first Barclays Premier League home game, told safc.com.
"They came down with a lot of confidence after getting an away win at Blackpool and I thought we set our stall out quite well.
"We didn't let them get into too many troubling areas and looked quite bright on the counter-attack."
