Chicago Fire have rubbished claims that they are set to sign Italian great Filippo Inzaghi.

The 38-year old former Juventus striker, who is set to come out of contract with AC Milan, has been linked with a $2million move to the Fire to play for the MLS club and manage a youth team.

But a club spokesman told the Chicago Tribune that those rumors were way off the mark.

"There is no truth to the reports that the Fire is interested in Pippo Inzaghi," the spokesman said.

"We haven't been in contact with him or anyone in Italy."
