Chicago Fire announced the signing of Dutch defender Johan Kappelhof on Tuesday.
The MLS club have landed the 25-year-old from Eredivisie club FC Groningen on a three-year deal, using Targeted Allocation Money to bring in the talented centre-back.
Kappelhof has spent the last five years with Groningen where he racked up 150 appearances in all competitions including 123 in the Dutch top flight.
Of the signing, Fire general manager Nelson Rodríguez said: "We are delighted to add a defender of Johan's quality.
"He craves and excels in 1-on-1 situations, matches well with both physical and fast opponents, and is refined on the ball."
