Chelsea youngster Alfie Gilchrist is on the eight-man shortlist for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.

The young defender, who has been captain for part of this campaign, started 22 of 26 games for the club.

Not only has he defended admirably, but Gilchrist has a goal and assist to his name as well.

Development squad head coach Mark Robinson stated: “It is really pleasing that Alfie has been nominated being a defender. He has shown excellent consistency in his play, as well as taking himself out his comfort zone in terms of what we have asked him to do on the ball.

“His approach to all aspects of training has been first class and the nomination is fully deserved."
