CHELSEA v MAN UTD RECAP: Blues snatch point with late equaliser against United

Chelsea remain undefeated under interim manager Guus Hiddink following a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Jesse Lingard scored a spectacular individual goal in the 61st minute to put the visitors ahead after an evenly contested first half.

However, Chelsea were able to grab a share of the spoils through Digeo Costa's stoppage time equaliser.

The result leaves United sitting in fifth place, six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, while Chelsea are 13th.

MATCH OVERVIEW

Chelsea: 1 (Diego Costa 90+1')
Manchester United: 1 (Jesse Lingard 61')

TALKING POINTS

Costa scored his seventh goal in his past eight games and is thriving under the leadership of Hiddink, who has managed to restore the confidence of Chelsea's playing group after it was severely lacking earlier in the season. The Blues now sit just seven points below a Europa League spot.

United attacked Sunday's fixture with a much more positive mindset, as evidenced by their 17 shots at goal. However, the pressure will continue to mount on Louis van Gaal, with the overwhelming feeling being that United dropped two points after conceding Costa's late equaliser.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Chelsea host Newcastle Untied at Stamford Bridge, while United travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland.

QUOTES CORNER

Chelseamanager Guus Hiddink thought a draw was a fair result:

"I am happy with the reaction of the team. Manchester United did a good job in the first half and in the beginning of the second, they are not an easy team to beat.

"But we deserved a point. We dropped too far back after the first 20 minutes when they dominated us but later on we closed a little more."

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes his side were the better team:

"I feel we didn't reward ourselves with a victory because we were the better team. Until the last quarter we played very well and could have scored more goals. But you have to control the game better and we did not do that.

"It isn't a lack of concentration it is not being composed when you are defending. When we have the ball we have to keep the ball."
