Chelsea have made an offer for Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.
The Blues want to sign the Portugal international on an 18-month with obligation to buy for £55m, claims Sky Sports.
That offer is dependent on whether Fernandes plays at least 50 per cent of games during his time in West London.
The news comes as a blow to West Ham, who have offered the same deal but with a obligation to buy offer of £33m.
However, the amount of games required that would trigger West Ham's clause is less than Chelsea's.
The decision could come down to the 20-year-old, who has indicated he wants to live in London, having been previously linked with Manchester United.
