Chelsea success could knock Newcastle out of Champions League - Shearer

Alan Shearer has a bad feeling that Newcastle United's Champions League hopes for next season will be dashed.

The great striker's former club currently sit fourth on the Premier League table, ahead of Tottenham and Chelsea, but they may miss out if the latter wins the Champions League final next month.

The Blues take on Bayern Munich in the decider at Allianz Arena on May 19 and Shearer fears that could spell the end of Newcastle's Champions League qualification.

"It's amazing what Newcastle have done. I hope I am wrong, but it would be just Newcastle's luck to finish fourth and Chelsea go and win the Champions League," he told The Chronicle.

"I obviously want Newcastle to finish fourth, but I would also like Chelsea to go on and win the Champions League after the season they have had - not if it's at Newcastle's expense of qualifying for the Champions League though.

"It's a tough scenario."
