Chelsea, Real Madrid encouraged as Alaba confirms Bayern Munich departure

David Alaba has announced he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old has already been linked to both Manchester City, and more strongly Real Madrid, over the past few months as he looks for a fresh challenge after what could be his tenth league title.

However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could enter the race to sign the defender, with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel likely to be very aware of his talent in several positions.

While Alaba has confirmed his intention to leave, he has not yet decided where he will play next season.

He said: "I have made the decision to leave Bayern at the end of this season and try something new.

"It obviously wasn't an easy decision - I've been here for 13 years and the club means a lot to me.

"I haven't decided where I'm going next."

Adding on who he would like to thank: "Everyone, absolutely everyone. I'm really thankful for that and that's why it made this such a hard decision. I can call Bayern my family."
