Chelsea were on the lookout for a Premier League-proven player as the transfer window neared its conclusion this summer.

The Blues were seriously interested in signing a Nottingham Forest attacker before September 1st.

Per The Athletic, Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi was seen as an ideal target for the Stamford Bridge club.

While the Blues did not want Awoniyi as a starting centre forward, they saw him as a crucial rotation piece.

The club are concerned about their lack of depth up front, especially given Christopher Nkunku's injury history.

However, the West Londoners did wait a little too late in the window to sign Awoniyi.

Forest were not willing to do any deal, given they are hoping to stay in the Premier League.
