Chelsea are intensifying their interest in Benfica pair Javi Garcia and Nelson Oliveira.

The Daily Mail says Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is already a known admirer of former Real Madrid midfielder Garcia, but Chelsea are also said to be weighing up a move for him this summer.

The 25-year-old Spaniard can play in defence, as well as in his favoured central midfield position. Suitors have sounded out Benfica about a £17million move, but the Portuguese giants are so far insisting they want closer to £25m.

A Barcelona scout was also present at the match against Maritimo, to check on promising Portugal striker Oliveira.

The 20-year-old looks a raw talent but has been used sparingly by Jorge Jesus this season.
