Chelsea are planning a surprise swoop for QPR midfielder Stephane Mbia. The Daily Express says the potential move may hinge on whether the Hoops are successful in their attempt to land unsettled Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila.

M'Vila is high on Harry Redknapp's wish list as he seeks to keep his side afloat for another season in the Barclays Premier League.

And though Mbia may not be the typical player Chelsea would go for, the Blues do have a shortage of defensive midfielders.
