Chelsea No2 Rui Faria delighted with victory over Roma

Chelsea assistant coach Rui Faria was delighted with their friendly win over AS Roma in the US.

Frank Lampard, a half-time substitute, drew Chelsea level with a trademark strike following excellent build-up play between Eden Hazard and Demba Ba just after the hour, and with the game seemingly heading for a draw, Romelu Lukaku scrambled home in the 89th minute to win the match.

"The match was against a good, organised team, and a team that wanted a result, so it was a very good game for us," Faria tells the official Chelsea website.

"We're really happy with the performance of our players. All the players out on the pitch gave their best and fought in a difficult match. There were some difficult moments, like when we went behind, but there were a lot of positives for the team.

"In the end, winning is not the most important thing in these matches but it's always good to win because of the identity and personality we want to create in the team. The most important thing was the way we secured the result.

"We tried to rest the players who are going away with their national teams, and also those who played a lot of minutes against Real Madrid as we are preparing for the first match."
