Chelsea midfielder Baker insists no Trabzonspor regrets: I compare myself to Xavi

Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker has no regrets over his loan move to Trabzonspor.

The former England U21 international joined on a season-long deal this term - on recommendation of former Chelsea academy coach Eddie Newton.

However, Baker has since seen Newton sacked by Trabzonspor after a poor start to the season. But the midfielder insists he's happy in Trabzon and eager to lift his adopted team up the league table.

Quoted by Fanatik, Baker said, “When I was told about Trabzonspor's project regarding the season and the future, I really felt that I should be involved in this project.

"In the first days of my arrival, I saw how talented the young players were here in my first match. We are not in a perfect position. We just need time."

Baker, who joined Chelsea at nine years of age, is yet to make his first team debut for the Blues. Instead, at 25, Baker is now playing for his eighth team on-loan - and in his fourth country!

The midfielder has been played centrally in Turkey, though admits he'd like to play further in attack.

He continued: “You need different skills to play number 10.

"I compare myself to Xavi, Thiago Alcantara and Paul Scholes due to the position and I see them as idols."

Upon being contacted by Newton over the summer, Baker admits he did his research on Trabzonspor before agreeing to the move. The Londoner admits he's eager to play in front of a full stadium in front of the Trabzonspor support with Turkish football enduring lockdown.

He added: “I watched (Trabzonspor) many times from videos. We have a great fanbase. I hope I can play in front of them before my time here expires."

Baker is contracted to Chelsea until 2022.
